I had problems last winter with dry conditions drying out and shrinking the wood. I really thought I would not have more of the same problems this year. But, as you can see below, the wood is still shrinking from drying out. My wife has been bugging me for years to install a whole house humidifier. I think maybe its time I listen to her.

Oh yeah, I know that look all too well. Fortunately for me, the effect is minimized by spline roadebed, but I still get the pops in my non ballasted when it is dry. Last night the humidity in the basement was 25%, so I expect to get a few pops soon.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Nice hump yard... :-)
ReplyDeleteMy benchwork has been in place for seven years and I still get seasonal movement of the rail. On my O scale layout it manifests as tightness at the stub switch points. I think some more expansion gaped are needed. Or lay the track in winter.
